We maintain a website, choose-sex-of-baby.com, and in order to monitor what people are interested in and looking for regarding this topic, we have been visiting forums and sites to read the latest posts and comments. This time we were specifically looking for the reasons why anyone wishes to conceive a baby boy. Here is what we found (but don't read too much into the comments as they are probably "off the cuff"):
To begin with the truly unexpected":
1. I'm 19 and 20 weeks pregnant with a boy. I always hoped it would be a son, a male, even prayed for a boy, a son. I could never manage a daughter. There's no way in the world they are easier, especially a girl related to me! Girls are nuts and possibly evil so I'm glad I'm having a boy, worst thing that happens with a boy is he's a little stupid!!!"

3. "I always wanted to conceive a son first, just for that 'Big Brother' appeal. I had 3 elder brothers growing up, and it was good knowing there was always someone to protect me and be watching."
4. "My husband also, I think, wanted to have a male to carry on his name, since he is the only male left in the family. His father died when he was small, and he has only female cousins from his father's side."
5." I would like to know how to conceive a boy, so I can see how it is to raise both, and it will give me more excitement, to discover how they are different"
5." I always wanted 2 kids, a male and then a female. Because I am the eldest in my family and didn't have a big brother growing up. I want my daughter to have that."
And this comment, which was rather sad and touching:
6. If I can select the sex of my baby, I really want a baby boy. I have always wished for a daughter, but this switched recently, when I thought about all the troubles I have put my parents through, and I wouldn't want my baby girl to turn out like me, and I would be worried to death that she would. If I was told that I was going to have a daughter, I would love her just as much as a baby boy, and wouldn't be disappointed one bit, I would just be a little anxious that she would turn out like me.
I have been in a lot of trouble (with men) these past couple years, and I wouldn't want my baby to be doing the things I did/do."
7. I'd want a son because I've always been a tom boy
We were quite amazed at the reasons why people want to choose the sex of their baby, and had sort of guessed that parents may want to conceive a boy only to "balance the family" or to "carry on the family name".
